Within XMDS, a leading Dutch technology holding company, an exciting transformation is taking place. While its service arm, Ximedes continues to deliver custom software solutions, XMDS is now launching XPP, bringing together its four payment technology products - KUARIO, Pecunda, Vayapay, and Ginger - under one unified brand. This new payment powerhouse represents the next evolution in XMDS's journey to modernise payment technology.
Just before the official launch of XPP, we sit down with Geert, who leads delivery and operations, as he shares his perspective on ensuring operational excellence and driving successful implementation of payment solutions across diverse markets.
With nearly three decades of experience in project and change management, Geert has built a career across finance and FinTech, tackling complex projects and leading transformative initiatives. Interestingly, finance wasn’t the initial plan. Armed with a background in marketing, Geert began as a consultant, open to exploring diverse fields before finding his way to finance. He quickly found his skills were best used to overcome delivery and change challenges.
"I’ve spent 28 years in project management and change management, with a big focus on finance and FinTech. I didn’t originally set out to land in finance—I actually studied marketing. I started my career as a consultant at Ordina, and back then, I was open to exploring different industries. One thing led to another, and I found myself in finance almost by accident. But as the projects got more complex and impactful, I got hooked.
When I joined XPP as Chief Operating Officer in September 2023, I saw an opportunity to bring my experience to a company at a pivotal moment of transformation. When Tom shared the challenge of orchestrating delivery and operations across our four distinct product groups - KUARIO, Pecunda, Vayapay, and Ginger, I saw where I could help. Each product has its own unique requirements and customer base, making the operational puzzle both complex and rewarding."
"A typical day in my role is all about ensuring smooth delivery and operations. I check in with our development and operations teams, making sure projects are on track and any roadblocks are handled My main focus is always on customer satisfaction to ensure we’re meeting, if not exceeding, expectations.
I also stay connected with sales and customer success teams to align on customer needs and anticipate any issues that might arise. There’s a lot of outreach to our partners or clients, and collaboration with them is necessary for seamless delivery. Overall, it’s a mix of coordination, problem-solving, and proactive communication to keep everything running smoothly."
"What I enjoy most about working here is the challenge of overcoming complex problems within delivery—there’s a real sense of purpose in working toward solving something for our clients. Every day brings new puzzles to solve, and that makes the work both engaging and rewarding.
Plus, I appreciate the great people I get to work with; there’s talent and energy across the team. And with a new management team coming in, there’s this opportunity to shape the company's future together."
“I focus on creating an environment where team members have the freedom to approach their work independently without being micromanaged. I think that autonomy is what really motivates people—they want to achieve something meaningful here, and I encourage that drive. Of course, if anyone is facing challenges, I step in to support them. So overall, I aim to give them freedom within the structure."
I also believe in setting clear values and standards for the team and making sure everyone understands our shared goals. I like to provide clarity around expectations so that everyone knows what we’re working toward.”
"One of my hobbies outside of work is volleyball. I also have two sons, ages 20 and 19, who keep life interesting and likewise enjoy playing volleyball.
Recently, I took on the project of converting a van into a camper—a hands-on challenge that combines my love for travel and a project in a tangible way. My goal is to take it on road trips, especially around Scandinavia. Working through the ups and downs of a project I’ve never tackled before has been rewarding.
"My advice for someone just starting their career would be: don’t overthink it too much. Focus on building skills in areas you genuinely enjoy because you can’t predict exactly how your career will unfold—it often takes unexpected turns. Embrace those changes as they come, and if you find yourself in a role that doesn’t excite you, don’t hesitate to try something different. Stay flexible, follow what interests you, and let your career evolve naturally."
